In the first incident, 27-year-old Joshua Byrd of Powder Springs was operating a 2012 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle at 8:14 p.m. when he rear-ended a 2008 Ford E-350 box truck attempting to make a left turn at Macedonia Road and Macedonia Drive. Hours later, 34-year-old Jacky Patterson of Austell was attempting to cross the East-West Connector at Hicks Road against the traffic signal when she was hit by a red Ford Escape. Patterson was deceased at the scene. The driver of the Ford Escape and her passenger were unharmed, and the driver is not expected to face charges.
