Marietta Police Holding "Pastor Academy" for Local Clergy

The department is reaching out to the community by allowing men of the cloth to get a taste of what it means to wear a badge.

Marietta police have invited Cobb County religious leaders to participate in an academy program meant to give them a better idea of how and why police react in dangerous situations.

Police say they want to prevent any sort of unrest or conflict between police and community members that has sprung up in the aftermath of officer involved-violence in Ferguson, Baltimore, and other places. Officials tell WSB-TV that local clergy participating in the program can come away with a better understanding of an officer’s decision-making process, an understanding they can then pass on to their respective flocks.

This class of the so-called “pastor academy” is set to graduate in the middle of October, WSB-TV says.
