One More Chance for Budget Feedback

Here are the things you need to know today, April 6.

1. We'd like to say Day 3 of spring break is returning us to weather normalcy, but not quite. The National Weather Service has us under a frost advisory until 9 a.m., and that's just not right during an East Cobb spring. But the temperature will rise to around 70 today, which is about normal, and the winds should be calmer, generally between 5 and 10 mph. The low tonight is expected to be a more reasonable 44.

2. It's also hard to believe after the inch of rain overnight Monday, but we're also facing a fire-danger situation from noon to 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. We'll have dry air with a relative humidity below 25 percent, plus just enough of a warm South wind to help fan sparks into flames. So if you have a lot of brush and branches to dispose of after Monday's storm, burning everything outside is a bad idea today.

3. County Commissioner Bob Ott of East Cobb will hold his second town-hall meeting on Cobb's tonight at 7 at the . Just as we covered , we'll try it again tonight here at East Cobb Patch, this time courtesy of Smyrna-Vinings Patch editor Hunt Archbold.

4. In case you missed the articles Tuesday, we had two bits of good news for pet owners and lovers. First, the Georgia General Assembly has dropped the proposed tax on veterinary services as part of tax reform this year, as reported by Creature Feature columnist Linda Rehkopf. Second, we all can help the Cobb County animal shelter win up to $100,000 by casting votes online.

5. Finally, those of us who live in the electrical service area of Marietta Power & Water should be thankful, at least this week. Putting aside discussion about rates for the moment, the fact is we all have power today, while a lot of Georgia Power customers remain in the dark and don't know when they'll have the juice flowing again. Just seeing how quickly Marietta Power managed to restore power to East Valley Drive on Tuesday was impressive. So here's a doff of the fedora to electrical director Tom Bell and all those who worked through a dark and stormy night so we could wake up to a working coffee machine and microwave Tuesday morning.
