CCSD : Boston ES Earns Digital Citizenship Recognition

Boston Elementary School has earned national digital citizenship recognition!

The school has been awarded Common Sense School certification by the national nonprofit organization Common Sense.  Schools earn this designation by demonstrating their commitment to preparing students to think critically and use technology responsibly to learn, create, and participate, while also preparing them for the perils that exist in the online realm, such as loss of privacy, cyberbullying and plagiarism. 

Principal Valerie Lowery praised media specialist Jennifer Martin for her work, which earned this recognition, to teach students skills related to internet safety, protecting personal privacy, media literary and balance and managing online reputation and relationships.

“By preparing our students to use technology safely and responsibly, we are providing them an opportunity to build lifelong habits to help them succeed in a tech-driven world,” Principal Lowery said. “We’re honored to be recognized as a Common Sense School.”

The school uses Common Sense Education’s research-based resources to teach students digital citizenship.  

“Boston Elementary School deserves high praise for giving its students the foundational skills they need to compete and succeed in the 21st-century workplace and participate ethically in society at large,” said Kelly Mendoza, vice president of education programs at Common Sense Education.  “We applaud the faculty and staff for embracing digital citizenship as an important part of their students’ education.”
