β€œWe’re incredibly proud of Rachel for earning such a competitive scholarship,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said. Β β€œShe has dedicated herself to academic excellence, as well as to her musical talent and to service in her school and community. Β We wish her the best as she finishes her senior year and advances to many future successes!”

Rachel is one of only about 1,000 distinguished high school seniors nationwide to win corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards financed by corporations, company foundations and other business organizations. Β Scholarship winners are selected from students who advanced to the Finalist level in the National Merit Scholarship competition and met criteria of their scholarship sponsors. Β Selection is based on thorough review of academic records and college-entrance exam scores; leadership and service in their school and community; and personal essays and letters of recommendation. Β

She is the president of her school’s Girls Who Code chapter and a member of Science Olympiad, Beta Club and National Honors Society, for which she serves as secretary. Β A talented musician, Rachel is a member of All-State Orchestra, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Georgia All State Orchestra and District 9 Honor Orchestra. Β Rachel is an active volunteer in community service organizations and has earned the Georgia Certificate of Merit and Superintendent’s Key Scholar award.

Corporate awards range in value of $500 or more, and Rachel’s scholarship is for $2,500. Β Recipients can use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university of their choice.
