Don't Speed This Weekend
Operation Zero Tolerance for Labor Day weekend means state troopers will be out and ready to ticket if you push the pedal to the metal this weekend.

You know the feeling you get when you're driving down the interstate and you see a state trooper and for a split second you have to ask yourself, "Was I speeding?"Β
Expect to get that feeling a lot this weekend.Β
According to a release from the Department of Public Safety, Georgia troopers will be patrolling from 6 p.m. Friday to midnight on Monday to check for speeding and drunk driving.

In 2010, there were 14 driving fatalities, 2,580 traffic crashes and 1,042 injuriesΒ over Labor Day weekend in Georgia, according to the release.
Operation Zero Tolerance is also going on through the end of the weekend. Checkpoints for DUI and impaired drivers will be set up on secondary roads.Β

There are also some things you can do to stay safe on the road:Β
- Don't tailgate
- Allow plenty of space before merging in front of tractor trailers
- Use a designated driver if alcohol will be in your plans
- Make sure everyone is wearing a seat belt
- Take time to properly restrain children in a motor vehicle
- CheckΒ belts, hoses, lights, , and fluid levels in your vehicle before leaving
