Firefighters Relief Fund Plans Event For Firefighters Battling Cancer

"Burning for a Benefit" will raise money for Cherokee County Fire Lieutenant David Burnaugh and Woodstock Firefighter David Gray.

The Cherokee County Firefighters Relief Fund is holding an event on Saturday, November 5, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cherokee County Fire Training Complex located at 3985 Holly Springs Pkwy., Holly Springs, GA. The event is titled Burning for a Benefit and is aimed to raise money for Cherokee County Fire Lieutenant David Burnaugh and Woodstock Firefighter David Gray, both of whom are battling cancer.

The event will include live firefighting demonstrations, activities for children, fire trucks, food, music, and more.

These two firefighters have served the residents of Cherokee County for over 15 years each. In 2011 they, along with Matt Richter who is currently a Captain with CCFES, fell into the basement of a house fire and required rescue from fellow firefighters. Now, two of those three men are battling cancer together.

The Cherokee County Firefighters Relief Fund is a non-profit 501c3 organization started in 2007. It is funded by donations and bi-weekly member paid dues. Cherokee County Fire Employees that are members of the CCFRF can request funds in the occurrence of an unexpected event that have created a financial hardship on them or their immediate family. Qualifying events include Line of Duty Deaths, fires in their own residence, medical bills, and utility bills to name a few. An elected board of firefighters govern the fund and follow established by-laws to regulate the funds.
