Holly Springs ES STEM Academy Teacher Wins Agriculture Award

A Holly Springs Elementary School STEM Academy teacher has earned an award for outstanding agricultural education!

Fifth-grade teacher and school garden club sponsor Mollie Guy has won the annual Cherokee County Farm to School Golden Shovel Award. The award is presented annually by the Cherokee County Farm to School Committee, made up of local agriculture leaders and educators, to one CCSD educator each spring. It recognizes excellence in agricultural education through the use of a school garden and provides a grant for further garden improvements.

“Congratulations to Mollie and Holly Springs for this recognition of your outstanding program,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said. “School gardens and agricultural education offer students more opportunities to learn about science through engaging, real world lessons. We greatly appreciate the Farm to School committee, the Farm Bureau and our other outstanding partners that support these programs in our schools.”

A repeat winner of the award, Ms. Guy previously earned the honor for the school garden program she grew at Hasty Elementary School Fine Arts Academy.
