Two Dogs Join Cherokee Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit

Two of man's best friends have joined the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office's K-9 Unit.

K-9 Dixon, handled by Deputy Darin Downey, was released from training and started full-time work with the agency earlier this year.

Dixon was named in memory of Canton teenager Collins Dixon, who inspired so many people before his passing in January 2012. Dixon replaced K-9 Rico, who served with the agency for 7 years.

K-9 Maxim joined the force in late 2012 and is handled by Sgt. Matt Azaroff. K-9 Maxim replaced K-9 Marco, who served with the agency for 9 years.

The new dogs were purchased with seized drug funds.

K-9s Rico and Marco are enjoying retirement and reside with Downey and Azaroff at their homes.
