Papi's Brings Taste of Cuba to Kennesaw

Reynaldo "Rey" Regalado and his father Rey Sr. dreamed of a better life abroad in the United States and presenting the "delectable culinary tastes of East Cuba to the Americans."

Rey became a United States citizen on Sept. 26, 2002. Rey's father, Rey Sr., passed away on Dec. 9, 2002.

Rey is now fulfilling the dream he shared with his father of bringing the taste of Cuba to the United States with Papi's Cuban & Caribbean Grill. Papi's, Spanish for "Daddy's", is named for and dedicated to the memory of Rey, Sr.

Patch: How would you describe your business? What is the atmosphere/style like?

Felix Pelaez, Papi's management: We are an authentic Cuban & Caribbean restaurant specializing in Cuban cuisine. Our atmosphere is a fun and festive family atmosphere.

Patch: Do you have a signature dish?

Pelaez: Our signature item would have to be our Authentic Cuban Sandwich. 

Patch: What sets your restaurant apart from others of its kind?

Pelaez: What separates our Cuban from the rest is that we marinate our pork as if it were being served as an entree dish. Slow-roasted over six hours, it is a true delicacy! Also we bake our own Cuban bread fresh, which most definitely makes a difference. Our secret sauce adds the final touch.

Patch: What is your favorite dish? 

Pelaez: My favorite dish is the Roast Pork special. Our previously mentioned slow-cooked marinated pork with rice, black beans, sweet plantains and Cuban bread! Can never get enough.

Patch: What is your favorite drink?

Pelaez: Favorite drink is our Mojito. No pre-mixes here. Our Mojitos are all made from scratch using the old traditional Cuban recipe just like the ones Hemmingway used to enjoy on those warm Havana nights.
