Vandan Patel from Lilburn woke up early on a Saturday, May 4, 2013. Vandan was thrilled knowing that his efforts were going to make a profound impact in the community. For the last two months, Vandan took up the cause of raising funds to support the local BAPS Charities Walk. "When I heard the stories of the kids that Children's Healthcare of Atlanta helped, I was inspired to help raise money. My grandmother and I went to local neighborhoods to help collect money," said Vandan, "The entire experience was phenomenal and I am glad I participated in the event."
The 2013 BAPS Charities walk in Atlanta will help support Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is a non-profit that specializes in pediatric care and the walk will help support their mission in helping young children.
This year’s walkathon brought together over 400 walkers who braved persistent rain and wind. Walkers of all ages convened in Lilburn to show their support of the charities. The walk launched with a traditional prayer for world peace followed by an opening speech. Dr. Shubhang Majmuder shared, "I am a physician and seeing this walk today reminds me of why we should help others."

Upon completing the walk, Hinel Patel proudly stated, “Rain or shine, I am glad I completed this walk. It was a wonderful opportunity for my entire family to come together and contribute to something that creates a positive impact in our community”.
Numerous volunteers were also there early to help make the event a success. Shashwat Patel, a BAPS Charities volunteer, remarked, "I had the special privilege of helping coordinate this event by helping registering walkers for the event and also helping in the set up of the event. This beneficial and exuberant event brings me immense satisfaction and gives me an ecstatic feeling that I have really helped someone in need."

Similar walks took place in over 40 cities throughout North America wherein over 13,000 participants walked over 45,000 miles. In addition to annual walkathons, BAPS Charities hosts health fairs, Children’s health and safety day programs, education and career development seminars, disaster relief operations, blood drives and much more.
