Swim Coach Named Parkview High's Teacher of the Year

A local swim coach is this year's "Teacher of the Year" at Parkview High School in Lilburn.

Eric Brown, who coaches swimmers and divers at the school and also teaches social studies, received the special honor on Aug. 30, according to the high school's website.

Brown is a alumnus, who returned after graduating from Berry College at the high school. He has been at the school for about eight years now.

"I love to help students understand the importance of geography in human relations such as politics, urban development, real estate, conflict, cooperation, business, and culture," he said on his teacher page, regarding his social studies background.

He is currently the assistant coach for the school's swim and dive team. And, it's fitting. Brown began swimming in summer league's when he was 6, and at Parkview High, his team won four consecutive county championships and state titles in 1998 and 2000, according to information on Parkview High's website.

In addition, Brown coached the Mountain Park Swim Team for eleven summers.

"When I am not teaching or coaching, you might find me going for a jog, swimming, attending a sporting event, at the gym, or reading a good book," Brown said on his teacher page.

Brown eventually earned his master's degree from Walden University and education specialist's degree from Piedmont College. 

Within the coming weeks, Gwinnett County Public Schools will be releasing the names of other winners of "Teacher of the Year" at its schools. Stay tuned to Patch for updates.
