Trickum Art Teacher Garners State Honor

From Gwinnett County Public Schools

A state organization of educators recently recognized a Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) teacher. Aimeé Burgamy, a visual arts teacher at Trickum Middle, was named the 2012 Georgia Art Education Association’s Middle Level Art Educator of the Year.

Her fine arts colleagues from throughout Georgia presented Burgamy with the award during the organization’s Fall Professional Learning Conference which this year took place in November in Valdosta.

The Georgia Art Education Association selected Burgamy for the statewide honor due to the contributions she has made to the field of arts education. Having joined GCPS and Trickum Middle eight years ago in 2005, this Gwinnett teacher has earned a reputation as an advocate for arts education.

This recognition is the latest on a long list of honors earned by Burgamy. Just this school year, this decorated teacher was recognized by the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta as its 2012 Visual Arts Educator, part of the “Woodruff Salutes Georgia Arts in Education Leaders” program.

In addition, she was selected for the Artsonia Leadership Award, which honors teachers who encourage family and community involvement in arts education and who demonstrate significant achievement in the area of technology integration within the school arts program.

Aimeé Burgamy earned a bachelor’s degree in art and art history from the University of Mississippi, a master’s degree in art history from the University of Alabama, and a doctoral degree in Art from UGA. In 2009, she was honored as the district’s top teacher, winning the Gwinnett County Teacher of the Year title.
