The Atlanta Police Department, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Transportation, unveiled a highway memorial sign in honor of Senior Police Officer
Gail Denise Thomas near the 85s/75s intersection and Northside Drive.

According to Atlanta Police, "SPO Thomas was struck and killed by a drunk driver on January 24, 2012 when she was responding to a traffic accident at I-75 southbound, near the ramp to I-85 northbound. She had served with APD for more than 25 years. The highway sign will be displayed at the interchange of I-75 at exit 251."

“Officer Gail Thomas is a hero. She served with grace and honor and protected her community," said Chief George Turner. "We are pleased to honor and memorialize the courageous life of SPO Gail Thomas with the dedication of a memorial highway sign, so that no one will ever forget her contributions to this city."
