News has been released of AT&T's decision to open an AT&T Foundry innovation center in the City of Atlanta, marking a milestone in the city's emergence as one of the country's IT hubs.
On June 25th, AT&T announced plans to open an AT&T Foundry facility adjacent to Georgia Tech in Midtown Atlanta. The center, AT&T said, will "speed up the development of the latest technologies and applications that will enrich your life whether you’re at home, work or on the road."
In a prepared press release AT&T said, "the Atlanta Foundry is the result of collaboration between AT&T, Cisco, Georgia Tech, and state and local business and political leadership."
“Since its founding three years ago, the mission of the AT&T Foundry has been to identify great ideas, put the right people and technology ecosystem around them and move them quickly to market,” said John Donovan, Senior Executive Vice President of AT&T Technology and Network Operations.
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed hailed AT&T's announcement as another major win and milestone for the city.
AT&T said the team at Atlanta Foundry will test and develop products involving AT&T’s recently-launched home security and automation service Digital Life. It will also create new apps and services related to the “connected car,” mobility, emerging devices and AT&T U-verse. Host sponsor Cisco will collaborate with AT&T on projects and help identify key third-party developers, startups, investors, inventors and other entrepreneurs to bring into the facility.
