ATLANTA — Former U.S. Attorney Byung Jin “BJay” Pak has been named a partner at the Atlanta law firm where he began his legal career, according to an announcement released Thursday.

Pak rejoined the law firm Alston & Bird just two weeks after he abruptly resigned from his role as head of U.S. Justice Department for the Northern District of Georgia. The Justice Department inspector general recently opened an inquiry into Pak’s departure after Trump’s complaints.

The resignation followed a bizarre phone call that former Pres. Donald Trump made to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on Jan. 3, demanding that Raffensperger “find 11,780 votes” -- enough to overturn Pres. Joe Biden’s electoral victory in the state. Trump and many of his supporters claimed falsely that his loss in the presidential election was the result of fraud, and that states like Georgia had rigged election results in Biden’s favor.

Trump’s White House told Pak he needed to step down because he wasn’t “pursuing vote-fraud allegations to Trump’s satisfaction.”

Pak rejoins Alston & Bird in it’s litigation and trial practice group, returning to the group for which he began in private practice when he was hired there in 2000.

“BJay is a gifted attorney, dedicated public servant, and a leader of considerable experience and skill,” said Alston & Bird Chairman and Managing Partner Richard Hays. “He brings additional stature and deepens our reputation as a leading choice for internal investigation counsel, white-collar defense, and other complex civil and criminal litigation. It is with great pride that we welcome BJay back to the firm.”
