Peach Drop Scheduled on Dec. 31
There had been fears that Atlanta's traditional New Year's Eve celebrations would be cancelled due to changes at Underground Atlanta.

Atlanta residents worried about changing long-standing plans for New Year’s Eve can expect to be at Underground Atlanta to kick of 2016 when the big peach drops.
The Peach Drop, the city’s answer to the big show in the Big Apple, will go on as scheduled on Dec. 31, according to WSB-TV. Fears had been raised about the future of the event after Underground Atlanta was purchased and is now slated for redevelopment.
WRS, Inc. purchased the site in mid-December 2014 for $25.75 million and announced plans to convert it into a mixed-use development. A large grocery store chain is expected to anchor the new complex, according to a report from January.

The deal was a windfall for the City of Atlanta, whichbought out the rest of Underground Atlanta’s 88-year lease for $8.8 million in March of 2014. It is hoped that WRS can turn Underground Atlanta into the next redevelopment success story, mirroring the nearby Ponce City Market.
