15th Annual Ride for America to Leave from Loganville on Memorial Day
As many as 800 to 1,000 bikes are expected to leave from the American Legion Post 233 on Monday for the annual Ride for America to raise money for the Legacy Fund.
For the third year in a row, the annual Ride from America will head out on Highway 78 from Loganville on Memorial Day.
Following the flag raising in front of the Loganville American Legion Post 233, the bikes will head out for the ride to Madison for a patriotic ceremony before heading back to Loganville for lunch and live music. KSU is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. The 15th Annual Ride for America - Thunder in the Country - will happen rain or shine.
The event costs $10 per rider and $5 per passenger. The funds help support the Legacy Fund, a scholarship for children of the fallen. The ride is organized by the American Legion riders, headed up by Legion rider and co-founder of the event, Stan Mauldin. The bikes head out onto Highway 78, creating a great, spectacle to being Memorial Day celebrations. Loganville City Councilwoman Michelle Lynch, herself the wife of a veteran, has always urged people to get out and line the streets to support this patriotic event.

"There is nothing those veterans love more than seeing the support, all the flags and the people lining the streets to cheer for them," Lynch said at the last Loganville City Council meeting.
This year, the American Legion Riders sponsored a contest for the middle schools to write an essay about “What does Memorial Day mean to me.” The winner was Emmaline Johnston, a seventh-grade student from Loganville Middle School who was chosen by the school for her submission. She and her family will be the grand marshals in the Ride for America motorcycle ride on Memorial Day. Emmaline's essay concluded with the following words.

"Every Memorial Day, I think about the empty seats at the table of loved ones who have passed on, and I am grateful for their contributions."
Registration and breakfast begins at American Legion Post 233 on Highway 78 in Loganville at 7:30 p.m. on Memorial Day. The ride begins at 9:30 a.m. Don't forget to line the streets and thank the veterans for their service.
