Sorority Provides Free Health Services to Walton County Community

Monroe GA, May 4, 2013:  The Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumnae Chapter (SM-LAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will host a FREE Community Health Fair on Saturday May 4th from 11am-3pm at the Walton County Boys & Girls Club, 405 Community Court, Monroe, Georgia 30655.

This Community Health Fair seeks to unite the local community in a safe and friendly environment where friends, families, and neighbors can come together to increase the sense of belonging within the community. Free health services will be provided to the community including health stations, cardiovascular disease screening screenings (weight, cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar), free HIV testing, asthma screening, as well as workshops on Teen Dating Violence. There will be free community fun, games, and entertainment for all ages.
 
The Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered in 1997 in Stone Mountain, Georgia and serve several communities in Barrow, DeKalb, Newton, Rockdale, Gwinnett and Walton counties. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded as a non-profit service sorority in 1913 at Howard University and currently has a membership of over 200,000 predominantly African-American, college-educated women.

This Community Health Fair is critical to the success of our community initiatives through our Five-Point Programmatic Thrust. The thrust areas are: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement. Within these areas we have ongoing programs such as: Delta Academy for middle school aged girls who are typically deemed, “at risk,” College Tours for high school students in the 9th through 12th grades, HIV/AIDS awareness seminars for middle & high school as well as the community at large, community wide Health Fair, breast cancer awareness symposiums, voter registration drives, fiscal empowerment and investment seminars etc. You to become better acquainted with our chapter through visiting our website at www.smlacdst.org.
