Crash on Highway 78 in Monroe Injures Two Women

A 77-year old woman from Monroe and a 52-year-old woman from Loganville were injured Tuesday when their vehicles collided on Highway 78 at Cedar Ridge.

Traffic was tied up on Highway 78 in Monroe during the afternoon rush on Tuesday when two vehicles collided at the intersection of Cedar Ridge at around 4:50 p.m., according to a spokesman from the Georgia State Patrol.

"A 2004 Infiniti being driven by Elizabeth Towler, age 77, from Monroe was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of U.S. 78 from Cedar Ridge southbound," the GSP spokesman said. "The Infiniti pulled into the path of a westbound 1992 Pontiac Firebird that was being driven by Mary Samford, age 52, from Loganville. The Firebird hit the Infiniti in the left side.

Both drivers were taken to Clearview Medical for treatment.
