News Nearby: Grayson Storage Facility Damaged in Fire

Three units at SecurLock Storage on Athens Highway were damaged by flames, and smoke was sent throughout several others.

A group of self-storage units in Grayson were damaged in a fire early Friday evening (Nov. 29).Β 

A passerby alerted authorities after seeing smoke coming from SecurLock Storage at 1573 Athens Hwy. around 5:26 p.m., according to a news release from Gwinnett County Fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge.Β 

Arriving four minutes later, fire crewsΒ found fire burning in two of the storage unitsΒ at the end of a large one-level self storage facility. Firefighters quickly deployed attack hose lines to battle the blaze and protect nearby units.

Crews forced entry inside eight other nearby storage units within the same building to check for extension. The fire was contained to a total of three storage units and sent smoke throughout several others.

"The firefighters did a great job of stopping the spread of the flames and protecting the rest of the building," continued Ruledge.Β 

The damaged units contained only clothing and furniture items. There were no hazardous contents involved.

The exact cause of the fire was undetermined and was under investigation by Gwinnett Fire during the time of the news release. No one was at the storage building when firefighters arrived and no injuries were reported.Β
