Gwinnett Man Critical After Being Shot Multiple Times in Monroe, Ga.
Shooting happened at about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, on Mountain Creek Church Road in Monroe.
Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman confirmed that a 44-year-old man is in a critical condition in Clearview Regional Hospital after being shot multiple times in Monroe late Tuesday afternoon.
"He was shot on Mountain Creek Church Road and was able to drive away," Chapman said. "He turned onto Gratis Road, headed back to Monroe. He went about 150 feet and then stopped, got out of the car and collapsed onto the roadway. A passing motorist stopped and called it in."
Chapman said Walton County Sheriff's Office deputies were called out at about 5:40 p.m. He said the victim was in a truck with Alabama plates, but that it was a borrowed vehicle. The victim is a Gwinnett County resident. Chapman said they are not releasing the name of the victim until his next of kin are advised of his condition. He said the victim is known to them and was in the system having had previous contact with law enforcement. Chapman said indications are that it was possibly a drug deal that went bad.
