Help Welcome a Wounded Warrior Home as He Passes Through Walton County on May 30

A 20-year old wounded warrior from Auburn will pass through Social Circle and Monroe tomorrow, Thursday, May 30, 2013 on his first trip home since being severely wounded in Afghanistan in June 2012. Help welcome him home.

Sam Walley is a 20-year-old Auburn resident who was injured in an IED explosion in June 2012 while serving in Afghanistan, suffering the loss of his left arm and right leg. They are still working to save his other leg (he had another surgery last week to insert another pin).

Rebecca Dally, of Social Circle, is getting the word out that he will be passing through the communities of Social Circle and Monroe on Thursday, May 30.

"We have a rare opportunity to provide a warm welcome home, and a showing of our heartfelt gratitude to a true American hero," Dally said in an email to local residents. "His most recent surgery on the other leg was two weeks ago, and he is making his FIRST VISIT HOME since the incident occurred. A caravan will be meeting him in Augusta tomorrow, and they will be escorted by law enforcement all the way from the Georgia State line. The Barrow County Sheriff will escort the motorcade from Highway 11 at I-20 the rest of the way home."

Dally noted that we have just experience a meaningful Memorial Day weekend in which we honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice

"SPC Sam Walley could have easily been one of those casualties. Instead, he is a Wounded Warrior who deserves our respect and our thanks," Dally said. "Please join us tomorrow at 2:30 (in Social Circle) to line Highway 11 in town to honor this hero, to witness the motorcade, to wave an American flag, and to pay tribute to this Wounded Warrior. Send him home KNOWING that Social Circle, GA appreciates his service, his bravery, and his sacrifice."

The procession will then pass through Monroe on Highway 11 en route to Barrow County. Monroe residents are asked to do the same. He is expected to pass through Monroe sometime between 2:50 and 3:00 p.m, according to Monroe Police Department. He will be accompanied by his mother, Connie, who has been with him since his return from Afghanistan.

This is a rare opportunity to show a wounded warrior that his sacrifice is truly appreciated.
