'Hometown Heroes' to be Honored During the 2013 Walton County Emergency Preparedness Festival

The festival, coming up on Saturday, Sept. 14 in Monroe, coincides with National Preparedness Month.

Floods. Tornadoes. Epidemics. How prepared is your family in the event  disasters such as these occur?

Officials in Walton County will educate citizens about the importance of planning ahead at the 2013 Walton County Emergency Preparedness Festival this Saturday, Sept. 14, in Monroe.

Representatives from FEMA, GEMA, and the local EMA will be on hand to answer questions along with firefighters and law enforcement, according to a flyer posted on www.monroedowntown.com.

At 10 a.m., Walton County's public service employees will be honored with a special "Hometown Heroes" ceremony.

The free event, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hammond Park, will also feature the following:

  • Free materials on emergency preparedness
  • Safety demonstrations
  • Fitness competitions
  • Playground for the kids
  • Free cotton candy and popcorn
