The Kind of Mudslinging a Monroe Politician Says He Supports

Rep. Bruce Williamson (R-Monroe) joined his son and many other local athletes in the Spartan Race in Conyers on Saturday.

Georgia Rep. Bruce Williamson (R-Monroe) joined his son, Hugh, and thousands of other brave Spartans in the Spartan Race on Saturday.

According to the Facebook page, the Spartan Race is the leading global obstacle racing series. It claims to attract people who "want to live life to the fullest."  The world championships of the Spartan Race series is the Death Race in Pittsfield, VT, and has been ranked as the third hardest endurance race in the world.

The Georgia Spartan Race took place at the International Horse Park in Conyers at 9 a.m. March 9, 2013.

"Best race ever," said Nickie Nicholas-puls, another Monroe resident who took the challenge. "(You've got to) train for this. Burpees, monkey bars, javelin throw. Climbing ropes! 30 burpees for every obstacle not done - you only get one chance. I did 90 burpees."

Prior to the race Williamson said he wasn't sure he was going to go through with it. However, as the picture shows, he found the courage to get it done.

"This the only type of 'mudslinging' that I approve of," he said.
