Music City Monroe Round 2 Brings the Tams to Town

Crowd control procedures were tested for a second time in Monroe Friday when a performance by the Tams also brought in the young Tams and Tameka "Tiny" Harris of the VH1 reality series "T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle."

If the filming of a music video by Florida Georgia Line didn’t test Monroe's crowd control procedures enough on Thursday, Friday night’s performance by the Tams would have done it.

In addition to the Tams, a film crew was in town to video the performance for a reality show. In addition to the appearance by the Tams, on stage were also the young Tams in training, namely Mikai, grandson of Charles Pope, co-founder of the Tams, Jordan, son of Tams member Elton Richardson and King Harris, son of T.I. and Tiny of VH1’s reality show β€œT.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle.”

If the truth be told, it was the possibility of an appearance by T.I. and Tiny that brought in much of the crowd. T.I. , however, was a no show.

β€œHe’s on a flight back from New York and won’t make it,” Monroe Police Chief Keith Glass, said, adding that β€œTiny” and the children were in attendance, including son King who joined the Tams' performance. He is currently on tour with the group. His younger brother also got on the stage for the last number, something that thrilled his family as well as the many in attendance.

Keeping the children safe was a priority for the chief, who made sure that they had a clear path onto the stage and off again. The crowd, mostly young children and teens who were fans of the VH1 reality show, were thrilled by each appearance of Tiny and the children, screaming in appreciation every time they peered out into the crowd before taking the stage.

Li’ll Redd, who was leading the performance, had some emotional moments singing to his mother, who also was in attendance. He made reference to the fact that his father, Charles Pope, was in poor health and thanked his mother for taking such good care of his father.

Monroe PD, with the help of some Walton County Sheriff’s deputies and members of the Georgia State Patrol, were on hand to make sure that everything went off smoothly, which it certainly appeared to do. A crowded downtown rocked to the music for the second day in a row as the Tams sang some of their age-old favorites such as β€œWhat Kind of Fool,” and β€œBe Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy.”

The Tams concert kicked off the Monroe First Friday Summer Concert Series. The Jagged Stones take the stage for the next in the series on June 7.
