New Pawn Shop in Monroe, Ga. Sees Brisk Trade in Arms and Ammunition

Paydirt Pawn in Monroe had its official ribbon cutting on Feb. 21. It is located next to Chick-fil-A, across from Walmart in Monroe, Ga.

Paydirt Pawn at 730 Martin Luther King Jr., Blvd., (Highway 138) in Monroe, Ga. has been open for a couple of months, but had its official ribbon cutting last week. The store has a wide range of items that it buys, sells and trades. Included are coin and knife collections, Jewelry, collectibles and items such as children's toys from times long gone. It also carries a range of arms and ammunition that owner Larry Balkin says has proved to be a hot item for the store.

"It wasn't our intention to focus on the gun business, but that is just the way it has gone," Balkin said. "We started out as a pawn shop and a small retail. Because of what's happened, we're in the gun business and the ammunition business a whole lot more than we anticipated, but we're just trying to meet the demand."

Balkin said he's been very happy with the response of the community to Paydirt Pawn.
