K9 Deputy Hangs up His Collar - Cumming Patch

After a heroic career, a member of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office has retired.

Aron, a German Shepherd born in Dec. 2005, followed his nose while working for the sheriff's office as a specialist in narcotics, patrol work and tracking, according to his handler Deputy First Class C. Scott Goldsberry.

- Cartersville Patch

One of the five people accused of operating a "pill mill" in Cartersville has pleaded guilty and agreed to cooperate with federal authorities.

Jesse Violante, 24, of Vero Beach, FL, who owned Atlanta Medical Group along with co-defendant Jason Votrebek, pleaded guilty in January to a drug trafficking conspiracy count in a deal with federal prosecutors, according to the court documents, attached. He is scheduled to be sentenced April 11 in Rome.

The conspiracy involved 61,908 (30 mg) and 10,564 (15 mg) pills of oxycodone, according to prosecutors.

Students Arrested in High School Cafeteria Fight - Tucker Patch

A lunchtime brawl between two students at Tucker High School left a trail of blood in the cafeteria as both ninth-graders were taken away by police.

The melee occurred late Thursday morning, according to a THS parent who did not wish to be identified. "Two students got into a fist fight, there was bleeding, police were called and both were put in handcuffs, arrested and left in police cars," the parent told Patch.

Man Stabbed During Street Fight - Midtown Patch

Michael Taylor Zimmerman, 26, remains in jail after last weekend's street fight near 5th and Juniper streets that led to a man being stabbed and rushed to Grady Hospital.

Project Q is reporting that the victim is a 32-year-old gay man, and that he and the suspect knew each other. Project Q reports that witnesses saw Zimmerman fighting with the victim, and that the victim was screaming for help.
