Oconee Man Arrested in Murder of Waffle House Waitress

A 78-year-old Oconee County man has been arrested in connection with the May 29 murder of Misty Myrick, 38, an Oglethorpe County resident whose body was found on Simonton Bridge Road in neighboring Oconee County. 

Talmadge Edward Powell was arrested early Saturday morning without incident at his Lavista Road home. 

Myrick's body was discovered shortly before 2:30 p.m. May 29 between Broadlands Drive and Norton Road. According to Chief Deputy Lee Weems, she was found with one gunshot wound to the back.
