Official Ribbon Cutting for Harmony Elementary School in Monroe

The School replaces the old Blaine Street Elementary, now being sold.

The latest Walton County school, Harmony Elementary School in Monroe, opened it’s doors to students on Aug. 13 for the new school year. Monday, it made it official with a ribbon cutting by the Walton County Chamber of Commerce.

On hand for the occasion were Walton County Board of Education members and Superintendent Gary Hobbs. The welcome was given by HES Principal Christy Bowman and the invocation was given by the Rev. Brant Callaway of Harmony Baptist Church. HES fifth graders performed “God Bless the USA” and the school Safety Patrol raised the flag before the official ribbon cutting ceremony.

HES replaces the old Blaine Street Elementary School that is now being sold, according to WCPS spokesperson Kimberly Embry.

“The building is under contract,” Embry said.

The new building is on Harmony Church Road and was completed in July this year. The building is 103,825 Square feet and is built for a core capacity of 1,200 students. The initial intake is 912 students.
