Walton County Day at the Georgia State Capitol

Officials from Walton County and the cities within had their January 2013 meeting on Jan. 30, 2013 at the Georgia State Capitol in downtown Atlanta.

Jan. 30, 2013 was the time for Walton County officials from the county and cities to take their business downtown.

"I'm pleased to report that our Walton County Municipal Association held their January 2013 meeting at the State Capitol on January 30th," said Georgia Rep. Bruce Williamson (R-Monroe). "Social Circle is the host city this year and Mayor Hal Dally led the meeting."

Williamson said there was good representation from all of Walton County's cities.

"Our Mayors and City Councils have an outstanding record of communicating, as evidenced by the well-attended monthly meetings held throughout the year. It is yet one more reason that Walton County is a great place to 'Live, Work & Play,' Williamson said. "It is a cooperative atmosphere that gets the attention of prospective industries, as well as Governor Deal and the Georgia Department of Economic Development."

The Georgia General Assembly convened for the current session on Jan. 14, 2013 and will run for an estimated 40 days, until about April 18. When it got under way, Williamson said it was his intention to continue to support job growth during this year's legislative session.

"I'm proud of last year's tax reform package that yielded tax savings for Georgians and gave Governor (Nathan) Deal the extra tools his staff needs to recruit high-quality companies like Baxter International and Caterpillar to Georgia," Williamson said. "My eye will be on more 'job creating' legislative opportunities."

As his first order of business on Jan. 15, however, Williamson introduced House Resolution 13, a resolution honoring the service and sacrifice of 1st Lt. Joseph Dennis Helton, Jr., of Monroe, killed in action in Iraq on Sept. 8, 2009. Helton was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Valor, a Purple Heart and numerous other decorations.
