Make Sure Your Family is Prepared for an Emergency and More This Week in Monroe

Five things to know as the week unfolds.

1. Though it's the second week of September, it won't feel like fall is on the horizon this week. Temperatures are expected to reach into the upper 80s every day and skies will be mainly sunny, according to the Weather Channel's forecast.  There's a 30 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms on Friday. See the full forecast here.

2. The next meeting of the Monroe City Council takes place on Tuesday, Sept. 10, in the Municipal Auditorium located inside City Hall at 215 North Broad Street.  If you can't make it, you can tune in to local cable channel 16 to view it.

3. The Downtown Development Authority will meet on Thursday, Sept. 12, at City Hall at 8 a.m.

4. Did you go to hear the Swingin’ Medallions this past weekend? You won't want to miss the final concert in this season's Sounds of Downtown First Friday Concert Series on Sept. 13.  The Cat Daddies will be in the spotlight. The concert is free, but VIP tables may be reserved for a fee.

5. September is National Preparedness Month.  Come and celebrate at the 2013 Walton County Emergency Preparedness Festival on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hammond Park.
