Cobb ACT Scores Above National Average

Cobb schools reported the sixth consecutive increase on ACT composite scores with a 22.4, out of a possible 36 points.

In the Cobb County School District, 3,249 students scored 22.6 in reading, 22.5 in math, 22.1 in English and 21.9 in science. Ten of Cobb’s 16 high schools posted average composite scores higher than the national average of 21.1, up from 21.0.

Superintendent Dr. Michael Hinojosa told the Marietta Daily Journal that six consecutive years of improvement is a remarkable achievement, especially when the participation rate has also grown significantly as the ACT becomes a more popular test for college-bound students.

Hinojosa also said that he's please with the higher rate of growth among some ethnic groups because closing the achievement gap is a high priority in the district.

Lassiter High School's overall composite score remains above 24 for three consecutive years. An 11 percent increase in the number of students tested helped keep the composite score above 24.

The state average was 20.6 for the 47 percent of Georgia’s 2011 seniors who tested.

The ACT assessment measures high school students’ overall educational development and their competency in core college classes.
