Cobb Gets $81K Grant To Implement Dobbins Land Use Study In Marietta

BREAKING: Land use study began in 2015 as an initiative to increase communication between local government and Dobbins.

NORTHEAST COBB, GA -- Cobb County is the recipient of an $81,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Defense as part of a plan to implement findings from a joint land use study involving Dobbins Air Reserve Base.

The study began two years ago as an initiative to increase communication and collaboration between local government and Dobbins.

In total, a $90,000 grant was awarded to Cobb from the Defense Department's Office of Economic Advancement, but the funds require a 10-percent match ($9,000) from the county, which brings the net sum to $81,000.

Planning consulting firm Matrix Design Group will implement the following three-pronged plan from the joint land use study:

  1. Devise a three-dimensional interface for an imagery model of the area’s terrain, for planning purposes.
  2. Study light pollution and how it affects nighttime vision training; also maintain a "public standard for outdoor lighting for public safety," the county said.
  3. Development a community outreach program to keep communication open between Dobbins-area residents and prospective residents.

The joint study's aim is to foster good relations between military installations and the surrounding community, the county said.
