Daily Devotional

Stop by Northeast Cobb Patch for a daily devotional based on the book of Proverbs.

Proverbs 17:4-5(Amp):
4 An evildoer gives heed to wicked lips, and a liar listens to a mischievous tongue.
5 Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker, and he who is glad at calamity shall not be held innocent or go unpunished.

We are cautioned not to give heed to a liar, nor should we mock the poor. These two things displease God and we will be punished. Verse 4 described the lying tongue as an abomination to God.

Listening to someone who lies is as bad as telling lies. We can be exposed to someone who is telling a lie and not know it, but most of the time we can tell by the person's attitude. We have a "feeling," or intuition kicks in. The liar may be haughty, critical of others with a demeaning attitude, and have a habit of spreading gossip or trying to get people to side with them against others. They try to enlist others to partake in their mischief. The Bible tells us we should flee from such a person.
