First Friday Art Walk

What's happening in and near Northeast Cobb today.

1. The Cobb Library System has an array of free programs for babies to teens: from baby and toddler story times, to movie matinees, puppet shows, creative writingΒ  and more. Programs for younger children include puppet shows, learning about firetrucks, and fun activities beyond books. Programs for teens include Young Adult Book Club, Anime, Teen Movie Matinee. 2. The Friends of the Cobb County Public Library System semi-annual book sale starts today and continues until Sunday. Donated items for the book sale include soft-cover and hard-back books, magazines, text books, DVD and VHS movies, and children’s books. Prices range from 10 cents to $2. Last year, the book sales generated more than $50,000 which enabled the library staff to purchase new books, CDs and DVDs. The March book sale attracts thousands of book-lovers to the event and is the first of two sales held yearly. Jim R. 3. The whole family will want to get out into the fresh air and enjoy the First Friday Art Walk at Marietta Square. The Art Walk is a free, self guided tour showcasing local original art. Local artists are hosted by Marietta Square area restaurants, galleries, museums, venues and boutiques from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., rain or shine, and participating venues display an official Art Walk banner in their window.

You can choose your own route through the over thirty merchants hosting artists in their stores, and don’t forget to visit β€œArtists’ Alley” featuring an exhibit showcasing a variety of artistic styles. Also located in the Artists’ Alley area is the headquarters of the Art Walk, where you can pick up a map before you begin and then get it stamped at each participating location that you visit. Once you get 15 or more stamps, you can return your map for a chance to win a β€œHip to be Square” gift package. 4 North Park Square NE.

4. Are your kids crazy about Pokemon? They need to join the Dr. No's Pokemon League. PokΓ©mon Leagues are a fun way to get involved in playing PokΓ©mon games with other PokΓ©mon fans. 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. Dr. No's Comics and Games, 3428 Canton Road. For more information, call 770-422-4642.

5. Dance Party tonight at The Place Bar and Grill. This lively bar and grill offers burgers, seafood and other mouthwatering entrees. The Place is a popular entertainment venue due to its outdoor seating, DJ on the weekends and well stocked bar. No one under 21 is allowed inside. The DJ offers a wide variety of music suiting every taste; from the Bee Gees to 50-Cent.
