Improv, Corky Kell and Oversight
On a hot, sticky, wet July 6 when you'll want to stay inside, here's what you need to know to start the day.
1. Todayβs weather has a familiar feel: Expect a partly sunny day with a high near 90, giving way to a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2 and 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The overnight low will be around 69.
2. While the has programs for the smallest children this morning (babies up to 18 months old at 10:15 and 18-month-olds to 2-year-olds at 11), older children get their free, weekly chance in the library spotlight this afternoon. Children ages 6 to 9 can participate in the One World, Many Stories summer reading program and get their passports stamped at 2:30 or 3:30; registration for the 30-minute program is required. Teens can take part in a two-hour improv program at 3 p.m.; they should sign up at the adult reference desk. For more information, call the library at 770-509-2725.

4. Practice doesnβt start until 12:01 a.m. Aug. 1 for the Kell football team, but tickets are on sale now online for the Longhornsβ appearance in the 20th anniversary Corky Kell Classic against on Aug. 20 at the Georgia Dome. The all-day tickets cost $14.50; theyβll be $15 at the gate. You also can book a hotel room with the Kell contingent at the Ritz-Carlton.
5. After presenting to the county Board of Commissioners last week, the Cobb County Citizens Oversight Committee gets back to work with a public meeting this morning at 9 at 100 Cherokee St. in Marietta. The PDF file of the committeeβs presentation is attached. And if that doesnβt quench your thirst for government meetings, the county Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals meets at 6:30 p.m. at 100 Cherokee St.
