League of Women Voters Sponsors SPLOST Forum

What's happening in Northeast Cobb today.

1. Have you thought about giving birth at home? Attend The Atlanta Homebirth Meeting to meet homebirthers, midwives, and learn if this option is for you. This Meetup is a community of people, private and professional, who promote homebirth while enjoying the company of a circle of like minded people. Working together they provide support and friendship to members and strive to increase awareness of homebirth. 7 p.m. 3660 Canton Road. If you decide to become a member, there is a $5 membership fee.

2. The National Christian Homeschool Regional Basketball Tournament starts today through Feb. 27Β at All-TournamentΒ PlayersΒ Park's The Summit.Β  Region 3 includes: Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, and Mississippi. Admission fees for adults and students not playing. 3910 Canton Road. Costs: Varsity/JV Teams -Β  $250, and 14U/12U teams - $200. For game times, call 678-384-6500.

3. The League of Women Voters of Marietta-Cobb will sponsor a forum concerning the upcoming vote for/against the Cobb County special purpose local option sales tax. Attorney Rose Wing, head of Citizens for Cobb’s Future, will present the argument in favor of the SPLOST. Mr. Lance Lamberton, Cobb County Taxpayers Association President, will present the argument against the SPLOST.

The forum will be broadcast on Channel 23 and subject to Channel 23 policies. This event will be held at the County Commissioners facility at 100 Cherokee St.

Please plan to attend this informative and important meeting. 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. And remember to vote on March 15th. Your vote will count!

4. East Cobb Civic Association Monthly Meeting is tonight. Speaker Faye DiMassimo, director of the Cobb County Department of Transportation, will outline the key transportation projects that are proposed to be funded by the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) and will take questions from the audience.Β  A referendum on whether to proceed with a four-year SPLOST in the county has been set for March 15. Β The business portion of the meeting will take place immediately after calling the session to order.Β  The Cobb County community is welcome.Β  6:30pm.Β  East Marietta Library, 2051 Lower Roswell Road.
