The unranked Longhorns (9-2) controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball en route to a 30-7 win in the first round of the AAAA playoffs.

On defense, Kell suffocated the Marist offense, shutting out the fourth-ranked War Eagles (9-2) except for a 65-yard touchdown run by the quarterback in the second quarter.
On offense, running back Jordan Chambers ran for more than 110 yards, and quarterback Clay Dodson picked apart the Marist secondary. The Longhorns also used a few tricks, including a lateral/wide receiver pass for a 55-yard touchdown play in the second quarter.

Kell thus broke Marist's 28-game winning streak in home playoff games and denied War Eagles coach Alan Chadwick his 300th victory.
The Longhorns will play next week at Lovejoy, a 42-3 winner over Upson-Lee on Friday.
