Help United Way Do the 'Write Thing'

Businesses and other community groups are needed to write thousands of letters of encouragement for students.

In Cobb, Douglas and Paulding counties, elementary students will receive a special delivery Thursday, March 15.

In celebration of its 13th Annual Absolutely Incredible Kid Day, United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta will deliver handwritten letters of encouragement to students in Title I schools.

The program connects volunteers with elementary school students to let them know that the community supports their dreams and goals for success.

Each year, United Way teams with various school systems to write letters of encouragement. United Way needs the community’s help in writing thousands of unique letters for students in these three counties.

“One of the six community goals for United Way is young people avoiding risky behaviors. Encouraging our students to do well in school is an important and easy way for us to work toward that goal,” Ofelia Nuñez, a regional coordinator at United Way, said in a press release. “This is an incredible idea and what seems so simple means so much. We’ve heard from dozens of teachers who are thrilled that United Way is sponsoring this project again.”
