DeKalb BOE Chairman Resigns
DeKalb Board of Education Chairman Eugene Walker resigned from his leadership position on Monday, leaving the embattled school board free to elect a new leader before Thursday's pivotal meeting with the State Board of Education.
CrossRoads News is reporting that Walker announced his resignation during Monday's specially called school board meeting. The school board is expected to meet again at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday to select a new chairman. Read more on Tucker Patch.
Pedestrian Killed in Hit & Run Accident on Bakers Ferry and MLK
Officer Lyon of the Atlanta Police Department has confirmed that one person was killed in an early Tuesday morning in a hit & run accident. The crime occurred near the Bakers Hills neighborhood, near I-20 and MLK.

According to reports, "the pedestrian was struck at around 6 a.m. near the intersection of Bakers Ferry Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive."
APD released a brief statement saying that the driver hit the pedestrian and kept going. Investigators are currently at the scene on Bakers Ferry Road and have it closed while they finish the investigation. Drivers are being detoured onto Fairburn Road. Read more on Cascade Patch.

Westminster Student Wins $26,400 in Teen Jeopardy!
Nilai Sarda, a 13-year-old freshman at Buckhead's Westminster School, won $26,400 on the Teen Jeopardy! episode that aired Tuesday.
Sarda, who applied for Teen Jeopardy! during the first year he was eligible, placed third, beating out several other elite teens much older than he is. Read more on Buckhead Patch.
APS Ethics Commission Clears BOE Chairman McDaniel
The Atlanta Public Schools Ethics Commission has cleared Board of Education Chairman Reuben McDaniel of alleged ethics violations regarding hiring decisions at North Atlanta High.
In December, the Ethics Commission voted to investigate allegations that McDaniel interfered with the hiring decisions regarding NAHS language arts teacher Amy Durham. Read more on Buckhead Patch.
Man Arrested For Allegedly Sexting Tucker Student
A man has been arrested on suspicion of sending explicit messages via cell phone last summer to a girl from Tucker.
According to Gwinnett County Police, Jose Rocha-Mata of Norcross was arrested Feb. 7 on charges of child molestation, and terroristic threats and acts. Police are also looking into his immigration status. Read more on Tucker Patch.
