No. 1 Lassiter Boys Begin Lacrosse Tourney
But the Trojans have to hit the road in the first round on Wednesday.
Even though lacrosse has only two classifications, Cobb teams can be found everywhere in the Georgia High School Association tournaments that begin Tuesday on campus sites.
A total of 17 teams from Cobb schools -- eight girls and nine boys -- have qualified.
One of those teams, the Lassiter High School boys, are ranked No. 1, in the Class 6A poll.

But because the Trojans are the No. 3 seed in Area 2, they have to play on the road. On Wednesday, they travel to North Gwinnett in a match that starts at 7 p.m.
Another note associated with Lassiter's No. 1 ranking: this is third Trojans team to have earned such a designation during this school year as state play got underway.

Their predecessors couldn't take advantage, however, as both the football and boys soccer teams were eliminated in the first round.
On Sunday, the Lassiter team held its season banquet. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Smith was named defensive player of the year and was one of three Trojans earning All-American honors, along with Cash Carlson and Jack Fitzharris.
Fitzharris is the offensive player of the year and Carlson is the Most Valuable Player. Clay Roelle earned the Coaches Award and the TROJAN Award winner is David Lopez.
Also on Wednesday, No. 10 Walton is at home to Peachtree Ridge.
In the Class 1A-5A tournament, Pope plays at St. Pius and Kell is at Decatur.
The girls get underway Tuesday. Walton, No. 3 in Class 6A, is at home to North Gwinnett and No. 8 Lassiter plays at Peachtree Ridge.
In the Class 1A-5A tournament, the No. 4 Kell girls are home against Decatur, Pope is at St. Pius and Sprayberry is at Marist.
Second-round games in the girls tournaments are Friday and the boys will continue on Saturday.
