Northeast Cobb Schools Earn SHAPE Honors
Mountain View, Blackwell and Keheley were cited by the Governor's office for promoting physical fitness and healthy eating habits.
Three elementary schools in Northeast Cobb have been named to the 2014 Georgia SHAPE Honor Roll by Gov. Nathan Deal, according to the Cobb County School District.
Mountain View, Blackwell and Keheley were among the four Cobb schools and 14 statewide cited for programs to promote physical fitness and healthy eating habits.
Schools are designated for the SHAPE (Georgia Student Health and Physical Education Program) Honor Roll by meeting a number of requirements, including the following:
- 90 hours of health education and physical education instruction.
- Students are scheduled and participate in weekly recess and or physical activity time in grades K-5.
- School has an active wellness committee.
- Students are scheduled and participate daily recess and or physical activity time in grades K-5.
Georgia SHAPE was begun in 2012 to address health problems stemming from childhood obesity.
Its network of partners, agencies and athletic teams includes the Atlanta Falcons, the Atlanta Braves, the Georgia Department of Public Health, and the Georgia Department of Education.
