A new month means the relaxation of some regulations on outdoor burning in Cobb County.
According to the county's website, open burning began on Oct. 1 and will last until April 30, 2014. You may now burn leaves, small tree branches, and other unwanted yard waste.
However, open burning does not come without restrictions and regulations. In order to be compliant with the law, you must:
- Watch the fire at all times.
- Have a water hose near the fire ready to be used in case the fire gets too big.
- Fires must be at least 50 feet from any combustible structure.
- Tree limbs cannot be more than six inches thick.
- Piles of material to be burned cannot be larger than six feet square.
- Fires must be at least 25 feet from any road where the speed limit is greater than 35 mph.
- Fires must be fully extinguished at least one hour before sunset.
Burning for the purposes of clearing land is permitted during this period, as long as an air curtain destructor is used.
Please be advised that fire officials may temporarily suspend burning privileges during adverse weather conditions or unsuitable local circumstances.
