Severe Storms Tonight, East Cobb Civic Association Meets and More

Gather around the water cooler to discuss hot topics and what's happening in Northeast Cobb today, April 27.

1)   There is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today, mainly after 2 p.m. It will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Tonight it could get ugly. There will be showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8 p.m. Some of the storms could be severe and produce heavy rainfall, with a low around 62. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent, according to the National Weather Service.

2)   The cheapest gas around today is $3.69 at the Texaco at 1120 Powers Ferry Rd. SE.

3)  Lassiter High School will be having its Re-lei For Life carnival Saturday from 10 a.m. til 4 p.m. at the school’s sports complex. The Hawaiian-themed festivities will include people-sized hamster balls, jumpies for kids, cheerleading and dance performances, yoga, speakers, food, music and much more. 4)  Bring your lunch and enjoy local musicians entertaining every Thursday at noon during May on the stage in Glover Park at the Square. The first concert of the 2011 Brown Bag concert series is May 5 and will feature Sonya Schell performing country music.

5)  The East Cobb Civic Association meets tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at 4400 Lower Roswell Rd. This month's regular meeting at the East Cobb Government Center features two guests from Cobb County government: 
Phil Hogsed, director/chief appraiser for the Cobb County Tax Assessor's Office, will discuss two laws recently passed by the Georgia legislature that overhaul the process for property tax assessments in the state. 
Dana Johsnon, manager of the Cobb County Planning Division, will present information on the final draft of the Johnson Ferry Urban Design plan, which will be submitted to the Cobb Board of Commissioners in May.
