Shaw Park Stream Restoration Project Complete

Cobb County Soil and Water Conservation District has completed the construction of an urban stream stabilization/restoration demonstration site at Shaw Park off Canton Road.

Shaw Park, one of the first parks built in Cobb County, is the home of a stream restoration project that provides a hands-on demonstration of effective stream restoration and stabilization techniques in an urban setting.

Cobb County Soil and Water Conservation District (CCSWCD), in partnership with Cobb Board of Commissioners, completed the stream restoration project at Shaw Park.

According to the CCSWCD, the project featured "daylighting" the stream from an existing concrete culvert and creating a stable channel slope and profile. Soil bioengineering methods were implemented to address ongoing streambank erosion, with an emphasis on techniques that can be performed by individual property owners. Also, a mixture of native plant species were installed to restore the natural stream buffer.
