Update: Opening Statements in Twin Murder Trial

Opening statements are expected this morning in the trial of a former Northeast Cobb resident accused of killing his twin brother.

A to try Wael Ali, 23, on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Wasel Ali in Columbia, MD, in 2007, Columbia Patch reported.

Wasel Ali’s body was found by a dirt path in some woods in Columbia on Aug. 27, 2007, five days after his family reported him missing.

The twins, who briefly served in the Army Reserve, had gotten into trouble with the law in Columbia and in Arlington, VA, the Baltimore Sun reported at the time.

The investigation went through fits and starts over the years, and Wael Ali moved to Cobb County.

He in mid-September at his Northeast Cobb home on St. Simons Drive, nine days after his presence here was exposed when pulled him over for making an improper lane change.

Ali was a week later. He went through a to determine whether he was competent to stand trial.
