Village Montessori Students Make Change, Fight Cancer

Students at in Roswell recently found how a little can truly go a long way by collecting change and raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Pennies for Patients program, which goes toward finding cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. 

Knowing the need for cures is critical; students worked hard to raise $1,077.03 by collecting spare change during school carpools and through collection stations and presentations in each classroom.

Northeast Cobb residents and elementary students Maggie Lock and Graceyn Powell, along with other students, organized and executed the three week campaign strategy that also included soliciting corporate donations. Notably, ignition, an Atlanta-based experiential marketing agency and its employees were prompted to contribute after seeing the initiative shown by the students.

“It was inspiring to see Village Montessori students volunteer and really care about helping others since leukemia is a disease that impacts so many children,” said Emily Milian, Georgia Chapter Campaign Manager.  “I’m so impressed by the generosity of your small, but mighty, school.” 

Over 900,000 Americans are battling blood cancers and leukemia remains that leading cause of disease-related deaths among children under 20.
