Stephen Aleshire, M.D., a practicing pathologist with Athens Regional Pathology Associates at Athens Regional Medical Center, recently received a Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics from Duke University.
This 18-credit hour program is under the direction of Dr. William Hammond, director of the Duke University Center for Health Informatics. Dr. Hammond is a nationally recognized authority in the use of Informatics in Healthcare and Biomedical Engineering.

The graduate certificate program encompasses aspects of healthcare related informatics including data modeling, project management and implementation, decision support techniques and related Informatics methods.
Dr. Aleshire has been a Pathologist at Athens Regional Medical Center since 1997. He is a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists and a member of the American Association of Clinical Chemistry and the International Academy of Pathology.

He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA and completed Pathology Residencies at both Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and Upstate Medical Center of the State University of New York in Syracuse, NY. He also completed a Clinical Chemistry Fellowship at Vanderbilt University.
