'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Luncheon' to Raise Money for the American Cancer Society

The following is a news release from the Hot Mamas of the Relay for Life of Oconee County:

The Hot Mamas are at it again.  Champion fundraisers who like to have fun, it is no wonder that they have named their newest fundraising venture for the American Cancer Society, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Luncheon. 

The inaugural event will take place November 18^th at the Athens Country Club.  The social, with a cash bar, will begin at 11:00am followed by a luncheon and show by IV Seasons Fashions at 12:00 and will conclude with door prizes and silent auction.

Tickets may be purchased individually ($38.50 per person) or you may reserve a table of 10. While capacity is 300, it is anticipated that this event may well sell out, so get your tickets early!  Tickets may be purchased by sending 2 checks – one made payable to the Athens Country Club for $18.50 and one (your tax deduction) made payable to the American Cancer Society for $20 – to Sandy Boyles 1021 Maple Court; Athens, GA 30606.

According to Ms. Boyles, Team Captain of the Hot Mamas, “This will be the 11th year together for this group of friends.  Many, of our team of 15, have been together since the beginning.  To date, we've raised well over $100,000 to help in the fight against cancer.  We've recently been the top fundraiser in Oconee County for the past 2 years.”

The Hot Mamas started a team when their children were in 7th grade. They named their team according to the age of the kids -- Oconee 7th graders up through Oconee 12th graders.  Then they began participating without their kids and changed their team name to the Hot Mamas. 

When asked why the Hot Mamas stay committed to this cause, Ms. Boyles shared that “several on our team have lost parents, siblings, and friends to cancer.  Several are cancer survivors. We enjoy each others' friendship and are committed to finding a cure.”
